Tonight I attended my first gallery opening for the art organization that I joined back in February. Every two months the gallery puts up a new show displaying the art work of the organizations members. The theme for this show is "Travelers' Tale" and I submitted my "Venice at Night"
[link] photo. There was about 100 entries to the show and out of those a 1st place, 2nd place and two 3rd places were selected. Along with those were 4 honorable mentions. I was one of the luck recipients of an Honorable Mention!!!!!!!!!

The judge really didn't have to much to say on my piece except for: "Great composition! I would love to see this as a painting."

Aside from having my art work in mandatory art shows for college, I've never really shown my art work, let alone my photography, in this type of setting. So for me to be a brand new member and this being my first time out of the gate, I'm very very happy with the nod from the judge on my piece of art.
The next show that will be opening July 10th is called "A Body of Work-Figures, Faces, Forms". I have a few ideas but not really sure how to execute them. I am definitely going to start a lot earlier on these submissions than I did on this last one. I think we can submit up to 3 pieces for the show. So I might try to make one a piece of photography, another a drawing and the third perhaps a painting to show my rang of creativity.
